This just in from CBS4 News in Denver - "CBS4 Finds Truckers Falsifying Logbooks"
You may agree or you may disagree with the article, but any way you look at it, log books are a fact of life for truckers and driving time is tied to the money you can make to stay in business or support your family. But logbooks are also about safety and protecting others on the road, including truckers themselves, from tired drivers that can cause accidents.
In Colorado, the rules are:
________________ Fourteen hours maximum on duty in a day, but they can only drive 11 of those hours and 70 hours in an 8 day week. ________________
Violate the rules and get a fine, but typically the fines are low. One trucker in the article got a $50 fine and was removed from service until he was back under the limit. But the truth is that until log books go digital, and are tied to the time that you are actually behind the wheel, cheating will happen.
Cheating hurts everyone and endangers others on the road, so keep your log book up-to-date and make sure to take the mandatory rest breaks. The rules are there for the safety of all. If you don't agree, leave your two cents below.

THE PROBLEM IS THE ON DUTY PART OF THE DAY YOU UNLOAD IT TAKES 4-5 HOURS AND THEN YOU RELOAD IT TAKES ANOTHER 4-5 HOURS THAT EQUALS 9-10 HRS ON DUTY ONLY LEAVING YOU 4-5 HRS OF DRIVE TIME SO WE WORK 14HRS AND GET PAYED FOR 4 HOW DOES THAT SOUND TO THE PEOPLE WRITING THE LAWS? IF THE DRIVERS(THE ONLY PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE LAW) COULD HELP WRITE THE LAWS MAYBE ALOT OF THE CHEATING!!!!!! DRIVERS ARE ONLY MAKING MONEY WHEN THEY ARE ROLLING DOWN THE ROAD COMPANIES ACCEPTING DELIVERIES FINE US IF WE ARE LATE BUT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE AS LONG AS THEY WANT TO UNLOAD WHILE WE SET NOT MAKING A DIME AND WE HAVE TO LOG TIME LIKE THIS AS ON DUTY? DOES THAT REALLY SOUND FAIR TO YOU?IT IS EASY FOR PEOPLE TO COMPLAIN BUT IF YOU HAD TO WORK 14 HRS FOR 4 HRS WAGE YOU MAY TRY TO FIND WAYS AROUND YOURSELF WE ARE JUST TRYING TO SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES WHY CANT THE LAW UNDERSTAND THIS?
I understand why the drivers have to lie, and I also understand why it is against the law. The real problem, like Terry says is in the fact that the drivers are not paid fairly for what they are putting out. I think this will end when drivers are treated with fairness and paid for each hour of service they provide, whether it is loading and unloading or for breaks.
Over here in the Uk we have recently started using Digital Tacho's. All i hear from the industry about this is how bad they are for rounding stuff up and down and loosing you time and money. We started using this "new" technology well before it was ready to be used , hardley the space race i hear you say , no it isnt but its costing good honest truckers money so of course they get tempted to cheat the system so its not good. Time will sort it out I'm sure but in the mean time its all down to the drivers.
you know i read and listen to all the crap about log books and people still don t get it! the average working citizen works 8 to 10 hrs a day. they get up at 6am have to be at work by 8am, get off work at 4 or 5pm, drive back home stay up till about 10pm or 11pm that night and so if that s true , which it is indeed then they are in reality only getting 7 hrs sleep and getting up again and driving in heavy traffic in the morning and afternoon after being up all day!!! tell me please then sir why do they insist that professional drivers stay out of the drivers seat fo 10 hours and non professional drivers have no restrictions. go figure. the whole system of the rules and requlations for commercial vehicles is totally nothing but a revenue scheme, period!!!!! what a joke. truckers are a dying breed because of how they are discrimated against in every respect. pay,fines rules etc. without them where would anyone be today. trains can t do what the trucks can do.period. wake up and smell the coffee people! i would hope that the truckers of this country would wake up also and show the us government who s really has the power here in this country. we need a strike. fuel is wiping out the trucking industry.
after arriving to receiver and u go off duty or sleeper berth while they unload u can u stay on off duty and drive to next pick up while empty I was told this that as long as u are empty u can drive and log off duty lol to save hours
with out TRUCK DRIVERS & trucks this country dies EVERY THING RELATED TO THE ECONOMY OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY DEPENDS ON US BUSTING ASS AND STAYING OUT OF OUR HOMES FOR WEEKS AT A TIME THE SUITS THAT DICTATE THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF TRUCK TRANSPORT HAVE NO DRIVING OR LOGISTCS EXPIRIENCE AT ALL THEY DEPEND ON "STUDYS" BY AND STATISTICS MADE BY PEOPLE THAT MAKE THESE ISSUES MORE IMPORTANT THAN THEY REALLY ARE FOR THEIR OWN JOB SECURITY,I AGREE DRIVER FATIGUE IS A DANGEROUS THING. OF DUTY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED WATING TO BE UN LOADED AND WATING TO BE LOADED THATS 6 TO 8 HOURS PLENTY OF TIME TO REST
im a dispatcher for a trucking company on electronic logs. you can't rework. once you move that truck your day starts and in 14 hours it's done. i used to drive and was the master of "reworking" i ran 4000+ every week consistently and took a 34 at home every week. but now you can't do it with this new system. it;s good for the lazy drivers that don't want to work but bad for the guys that used to run 650+ a day now they are down to 550 a day
you guys ready for csa2010. Soon we'll all have werener logs too. I tell you man if itwere left up to the government we would all be working for min. wage.Or you can lease a truck and really get screwed . i know guys making 100 bucks a week after all said and done.Guys we cant keep bearing the weight of political redtape and b.s. .eventually no one in there right mind will drive a truck.may as well be a cab driver.
man what a bunch of suckers we are now days to drive trucks. we'll never get paid now for what we do.csa2010;computer logs,fuel prices,lease deals.eventually we;ll all be just like cab drivers.I dont think our government wants us to make a living.Evantually no one in their right mind will drive a truck.everyone wants the product but noone cares about truckers.something has got to give.the sooner we all just walk away the better.Then they say weres the truckers,product.you dont know what youve got till its gone.Quit being a sucker find another career let the obamanites haul freight for peanutts.i dont care anymore.
