National Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2026: Dates, Free Meals and Driver Deals

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2026 runs September 13–19. Here's what's confirmed, what the major travel center chains typically offer, and the one September deadline that matters more than any free meal: Love's free drink refills for pro drivers end September 30.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2026 runs Sunday, September 13 through Saturday, September 19. It is the 38th year the American Trucking Associations has put the week on the calendar, and for most drivers the practical question is simpler than the ceremony: what is actually free, where, and what do you have to do to get it.

Here is what is confirmed, what is coming, and one deadline that matters more than any single free sandwich.

When is Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2026?

The dates are September 13–19, 2026, Sunday through Saturday. ATA has confirmed these on its official NTDAW site.

A few things worth knowing about how the week actually works:

  • The chains treat it as a month, not a week. Love's, Pilot and TA have all historically run promotions across the full month of September, with the biggest offers clustered inside the official week. If you are off on the 15th, you have not missed everything.
  • Some offers run past September. In past years, glove and merchandise discounts have stretched into late October.
  • Local events rarely land on the official dates. Association cookouts and travel center celebrations get scheduled around parking and staffing, so they often fall a few days before or after.

The week was started by ATA in 1988. The association puts the current professional driver count at roughly 3.6 million, and notes that more than 80% of U.S. communities depend on trucks alone for freight.

The September deadline nobody is talking about

This is the most important item on this page, and it has nothing to do with a free hot dog.

Love's announced in February that its complimentary drink refill program for professional drivers ends September 30, 2026. Starting October 1, refills move to a monthly credit-based model under the rebuilt Love's Rewards program. Instead of the old refill benefit, drivers earn more points and decide whether to spend them on fountain and cooler drinks or on something else.

Whether that is better or worse depends entirely on how many drinks you were actually pulling per month. If you were refilling twice a day on a 50-gallon fill, the old program was hard to beat. If you rarely used it, the points are more useful to you.

Either way, September 2026 is the last month of the program as it exists today. Two things to do before the 30th:

  • Use the refill benefit while it is still the refill benefit.
  • Claim the 100-point first-scan bonus if you have not already. Love's opened it to all members on March 1 and it expires September 30, 2026.

Love's also rebuilt its rewards structure this year. Base-tier pro drivers now earn 2 points per dollar on in-store merchandise, double the old rate, with another 2 points per dollar on Love's-branded products, fresh-made food and bulk DEF. Shower credits stayed.

What the major chains offer, and what is confirmed for 2026

As of late August, none of the big three has published its full 2026 offer list. That timing is normal — Pilot's 2025 announcement landed on August 28 last year, so these tend to drop in the last days of August and the first days of September.

What follows is the reliable annual pattern at each chain, so you know what to watch for. Treat prior-year specifics as a guide, not a promise. We will update this page as 2026 offers are confirmed.

Love's

Love's runs September promotions through the Love's Rewards program in the Love's App. The recurring pattern includes weekly food and drink discounts, discounted or free items bundled with oil changes and truck care service, a premium truck wash at the deluxe price, merchandise deals on gloves and gear, and points giveaways that have run into the millions of points in past years.

The 2026 wrinkle: rewards access moved into the updated Love's App this spring. If you are still relying on a physical card and have not opened the app since last year, sort that out before September.

Pilot, Flying J and One9

Pilot's approach centers on the app and on drinks. The core recurring offer, run through the myRewards Plus app, has been three free drinks each week throughout September, alongside rotating food discounts, buy-one-get-one deals, and bonus point promotions.

Pilot also runs its Road Warrior contest each September, with nominations open during the month. The 2025 grand prize was a customized Kenworth and $50,000. If you know a driver worth nominating, watch for the 2026 entry window to open.

TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express

TA's pattern is loyalty-heavy: points promotions and sweepstakes through the TruckSmart app across September, discounted showers during the official week, and double-points days. TA also runs the Citizen Driver program, which dedicates travel center locations in honor of individual drivers, with nominations typically open through early October.

The smaller chains

Regional chains often run the offers that are easiest to actually redeem, because the crowds are thinner. Sheetz, RaceTrac and Jubitz have all run driver promotions in past Septembers — cheap hot dog and meal deals, free hats, and in Jubitz's case an annual driver appreciation day in Portland with a free lunch and prizes. If your lane runs through their footprint, check their apps.

How to actually get the deals

The single most common way drivers miss out is arriving at the counter without the offer loaded. Nearly everything now runs through apps and requires activation before purchase, not after.

Do this before September 13:

  • Update every app you use. Love's, myRewards Plus and TruckSmart all pushed changes this year. An outdated app can silently fail to show current offers.
  • Log in and confirm your account still works. Password resets at a fuel island at 11 p.m. are not fun.
  • Check that you are flagged as a professional driver. Pro driver and casual driver offers differ substantially, and the wrong classification costs you the good ones.
  • Activate offers in the app before you scan. Most deals require you to add them to your account first.
  • Verify military or veteran status ahead of time if it applies. ID.me verification is not something you want to do in the checkout line.
  • Read the redemption limits. One per transaction, participating locations only, and while-supplies-last are all standard.

One practical note on timing: the free-meal events at travel centers draw crowds, and parking is the binding constraint. If you are planning to hit one, the lot fills long before the food runs out.

Free meals and local events

The best free meals during Driver Appreciation Week are usually not from the national chains. They come from state trucking associations, individual travel centers and local carriers, and they are almost never announced more than two or three weeks ahead.

Where to look:

  • Your state trucking association. These groups regularly partner with travel centers on hot lunch events along major interstate corridors. Check the association site for whatever state your lane runs through, not just your home state.
  • Individual travel center Facebook pages. Local events get posted there and almost nowhere else.
  • Driver-facing sites and forums. Word travels faster among drivers than through press releases.
  • Your own carrier. Many fleets run meals, giveaways and bonuses during the week that are not advertised publicly.

Some events ask for an RSVP, particularly the ones with a set lunch count. A few welcome family members for a small fee.

If you run your own truck

For owner-operators, the week is worth treating as a maintenance and paperwork window rather than a party. The service-side promotions are usually the ones with real money attached — discounted oil changes and PM service, truck wash deals, tire promotions, and points back on maintenance purchases.

If you are already due for a PM, September is a reasonable month to schedule it. Stacking a service promotion with a points bonus is worth considerably more than a free coffee.

The same goes for the Love's refill change. If you fuel primarily at Love's, run the math on your actual monthly drink usage before October 1 so you know whether the new credit model leaves you ahead or behind.

Common questions

When is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2026?

September 13–19, 2026, Sunday through Saturday.

Do I need a CDL to get the deals?

For most travel center promotions, you need a professional driver account in the chain's loyalty program rather than a CDL at the counter. Local free-meal events more often ask to see a CDL.

Are the offers only good during the week itself?

No. The major chains generally run promotions across all of September, with the strongest offers concentrated in the official week. Some merchandise deals extend into October.

Can company drivers get these deals too?

Yes. Travel center loyalty offers go to professional drivers regardless of whether you own the truck. Your fleet may also run its own recognition program on top.

The bottom line

Mark September 13–19. Update your apps in the first week of September, before the offers go live. And if you run Love's, use the drink refill program while it is still there — September 30 is the last day of it.

Montgomery v. Caribe Transport: The Supreme Court's Broker Liability Ruling Explained for Truckers

The U.S. Supreme Court just rewrote the rules for the trucking industry. In a unanimous 9-0 ruling on May 14, 2026, the Court decided in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC that freight brokers can be sued in state court for hiring unsafe motor carriers. The federal preemption defense that brokers relied on for decades is gone, and the logic of the opinion reaches well beyond traditional brokers to 3PLs, freight forwarders, and digital freight platforms. For owner-operators with clean safety records, it's a quiet competitive advantage. For carriers running with conditional ratings or open violations, the cost of cutting corners just went up. Here's what the ruling actually says, why nine Justices agreed unanimously, what it means for the loads you book next week, and what every trucker should do right now.
