Talbert was originally founded in 1938 as Talbert Construction Equipment Company. The company was started in Lyons, Illinois by Austin Talbert. They provided construction machine and crane rentals to the area, as well as heavy haul transportation. The company built a manufacturing plant in 1957 in Renesselaer, Indiana. They soon closed their operations in Lyons to focus on producing trailers.
Talbert is known for several innovations, including the first non-ground engaging hydraulic removable gooseneck hitch. They were also the first manufacturer of trailers to use heat treated steel and self-steering axles in the construction of their trailers. Talbert was the first to design air suspension systems and incorporate them into the trailers they manufactured.
Some of the most popular trailer models from Talbert include their 55 ton lowboy with a detachable gooseneck and their 20 ton tag trailer. These trailers are crafted out of high -tensile steel. They are designed to stand up to light, heavy, and oversize loads. The 55 ton lowboys have three axles with air-ride suspension. Many models also include heavy-duty folding ramps on the front of the trailer for easy loading and unloading.
Talbert also manufactures specialty trailers as well as tank trailers, propeller transporters and component transporters for the United States military.
Talbert's innovations include features and amenities that are designed to make the trailer easier and more comfortable to use.
