History of Talbert Manufacturing, Inc.

Talbert was originally founded in 1938 as Talbert Construction Equipment Company. The company was started in Lyons, Illinois by Austin Talbert. They provided construction machine and crane rentals to the area, as well as heavy haul transportation. The company built a manufacturing plant in 1957 in Renesselaer, Indiana. They soon closed their operations in Lyons to focus on producing trailers.

Talbert is known for several innovations, including the first non-ground engaging hydraulic removable gooseneck hitch. They were also the first manufacturer of trailers to use heat treated steel and self-steering axles in the construction of their trailers. Talbert was the first to design air suspension systems and incorporate them into the trailers they manufactured.
