History of International Harvester Company

Deering Harvester Company and McCormick Harvesting Machine Company merged in 1902 to become the International Harvester Company. This company started out manufacturing only farm equipment, but has since grown to manufacture trucks, gas turbines, construction equipment, buses and more. During the second World War, International Harvester produced trucks for the military. These M-series vehicles served as cargo transporters, light artillary movers and weapons carriers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The company still produced vehicles for the military under Navistar Defense.

During the 1980s, sales of agricultural equipment plummeted and the agricultural division of International Harvester was sold in 1985. The company kept their engine and truck divisions, changing the name to Navistar International Corporation in 1986. The brand "International" is still used in product lines of the Truck and Engine subsidiary of Navistar International.

The ProStar is touted as the most fuel efficient class 8 truck available.
