General Motors was originally founded to be a holding company for Buick. The company was founded by William Durant in 1908. The GMC Truck brand began in 1909, when GM bought the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company. GM also purchased the Reliance Motor Car Company that year. These companies were merged in 1911. In 1912 the name "GMC Truck" first appeared on vehicles that were on exhibit at the New York International Automotive Show.
GMC is best known for the lighter vehicles they manufacture, including vans and pickup trucks. They manufacture a wide range of vehicles, including some made specifically for the military. In fact, about 600,000 trucks were produced by GMC Truck to be used by the United States Armed Forces during World War II.
The GMC Savana 3500 is one of their most popular vehicles that is currently on the road. Some of these are cargo vans, others are passenger vans or box trucks. These trucks and vans are very commonly seen on the road because they have a reputation for dependability.
In the past, GMC has manufactured ambulances, fire trucks, military vehicles, transit buses,motorhomes, heavy-duty trucks and fire trucks. Their current lineup of vehicles includes a variety of light-duty, medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, as well as dump trucks, cargo vans, box trucks, passenger vans, flatbed trucks, refrigerated trucks and more.
