More About Peterbilt Trucks

Peterbilt was founded in 1939. Since that time, the company has manufactured heavy-duty trucks of premium quality. T. A. Peterman was the founder and manufacturer of these trucks. The first two models were Model 334, having dual-drive, and Model 260 with chain-drive.

Peterbilt’s Model 364 was used during the 1940s in support of the war effort. Model 360 was also released during that decade. During the 50s, the iconic red oval Peterbilt logo debuted. The Mode 351 enjoyed the company’s longest production run. Pacific Car & Foundry acquired Peterbilt during this era.

The legend continues. New Peterbilt trucks offer unprecedented value, quality, performance, and style. Here are a few of the many premium trucks offered by Peterbilt.

2011 Model 386

The 2011 Model 386 is designed to provide superior fuel efficiency and outstanding aerodynamic performance. Operational costs are reduced, and payload is maximized. Efficiency is increased with rear drive train and aluminum components of a Lightweight Package.

A PACCAR MX-13 engine is found in Model 386. The engine provides increased uptime, which means longer service intervals and lower operating costs. Detachable sleepers and day cab configuration are available. The lightweight aluminum cabs are strong and corrosion-resistant. They provide years of rattle-free and watertight performance.

2012 Model 384

The 2012 Model 384 has all the quality features mentioned for the 2011 Model 386. Durable performance is offered. The lightweight cab is hulk-bolted. It has lap seam construction. Bulkhead style doors used on the 384 are tough and corrosion-resistant.

A SmartNav system and infotainment system are integrated into the interior features. The touch screen of the SmartNav system provides vehicle monitoring in real time. Truck-specific information is relayed by the navigation system. The Bluetooth connectivity allows for hands-free operation. Satellite radio, iPad, USB, and MP3 capabilities are provided.

2012 Peterbilt Model 587

The 2012 Peterbilt Model 587 was chosen as the Heavy Duty Truck of the Year. It has “Fluid Dynamics” engineering that makes it the industry’s most fuel-efficient sleeper truck. The EPA has certified the truck as environmentally friendly.

Composition construction of sleeper, hood, and cab allow for lightweight operation. Night visibility is significantly improved with innovative, forward lighting systems. Brightness is increased by more than 200 percent with the optional HID lights that can be provided.

The steering design provides curb-to-curb maneuverability that is exceptional. A spacious interior can easily accommodate a team of operators. The SmartNav mentioned previously is standard on Model 587.

Newest Model

2014 is the 75th Anniversary of Peterbilt. Model 579 is the anniversary edition of the truck. The same innovation is part of the design of the newer models. Peterbilt remains an industry leader in performance, reliability and quality.
